Sea whip is found in waters south of Mid-Honshu. It is a species black corals and its color variations can range from white, orange, and others.

On its surface, there are polyps that look like little flowers. It can grow up to be 2 m to 3 m in length.

It is characterized by a long, whiplike growth.
