Leather anemone lives in shallow end coral reefs of West Pacific Ocean south of AmamiOshima. Excluding its tentacles, its oral disk is about 20 cm in diameter. They have thin and long tentacles on their front side.

They are hosts of various anemone fishes like clown anemone fish and pink anemone fish.
