Blotched Stingray

マダラエイ

The large ray with spots on its body is the Blotched stingray. Many parasitic worms attach themselves to the blotched stingray’s body and gills. On the tip of its tail, there is a large poisonous spike.

They live from the south of mid-Honshu to Indian Ocean and can grow up to be 2 m in width. They sometimes get caught in the fixed nets around Kagoshima. We use them for display.
