Black-spotted Porcupine Fish
The large blowfish is the black-spotted porcupine fish. Fully grown, it can grow up to be 60 cm in length. Like a porcupine fish, it can blow its body up. It is rather big to begin with, and its long spikes make it look much larger.
It is found in temperate/tropic oceans around the world. In Japan, they can be spotted in oceans south of SagamiBay. They live around rocky areas and coral reefs along the coast. Their teeth are hard and sturdy, which allows them to eat hard shells, sea urchins, and anything they can eat.
It’s uncommon at Kagoshima to see them.
