Silver-stripe Round Herring
The small fish, about 10 cm in length, with a silver body and blue line, is the silver-stripe round herring. They move in large colonies and approach the coast during May and June for spawning. It is the official fish of Kagoshima and is used for local dishes. They are very weak and their scale is easily peeled off, making it difficult to capture and ship to other locations.
The silver-stripe round herrings displayed here were captured in fixed nets of Kasasa, Minami Satsuma city.
