Creatures that Perform Photosynthesis
In the shallow parts of the coral reef, fishes are not the only inhabitants. There are creatures that perform photosynthesis using sunlight. Displayed in this tank are creatures that live in the shallow ends of the coral reef.
Seaweeds grow in groups on rocks and perform photosynthesis.
Some shells and corals let tiny phytoplanktons called zooxanthellae live in them. Such shells and corals survive using nutrients created through photosynthesis of phytoplankton that lives in them. In return, zooxanthellae earn a safe home inside these shellfish and corals. As seen here, many creatures help one another to survive, which is known as a symbiotic relationship.
