Colorful Soft Corals
In coral reefs where the current is relatively strong, there are many creatures that feed on planktons that get carried on the current. Displayed in this tank are creatures that favor living in such areas.
The colorful creature that is swaying is a species of soft coral. It is not sturdy like a stony coral, but it has tiny bone fragments called spicules that look like small spikes. If you look closely, there are numerous small polyps shaped like sea anemone on its surface. These polyps have poisonous tentacles and opens up like a flower to capture floating planktons. In this tank, seawater is shot from various directions to make complex currents, which makes it a suitable environment for soft corals.
